Winter Camping

Written by , Posted in Uncategorized

Snow, Ice, a whole lot of cold and a remote mountain top above 4,000ft in West Virginia provided a peaceful retreat for three days to kick off 2014. It got cold as all hell, with temps dropping below zero combined with 30-40knot winds that dropped the windchill to nearly 30 below the second night. Add in six inches of snow and a 15-20 mile drive down an unplowed forest road, and you have a pretty good adventure, even for car camping. (Snickers just had another major surgery so no backpacking for several more months).

Tidal Basin Pano on Washington Post.

Written by , Posted in appears elsewhere, DC Area, Photography

Kind of nice when I go to one of my favorite sites and see a photo i took. Washington Post’s weather page has used a lot of my photo work over the years, hurricanes, thunderstorms, snow, floods, change of seasons, winter solstice, etc. Today a panorama of the tidal basin i took early one morning this spring appeared.. If you live in DC and like paying attention to the weather, from basic planning to the nerdery of discussing forecasting models – Jason, Ian, Wes & Co. are a top notch resource. Check ’em out.

here’s a small version of the pic which is a 10-12 shot photo-stitch, that when displayed full sized would use about 24 1920×1080 monitors.
Tidal Basin Pano
pic appears on main right now, but is in this post on their site.
